Day 5 Yang Sheng
Take a look at the organ clock below and check in with yourself — what does it look like for you during this time? What activities are you doing?
In Five Element Theory, the Stomach is associated with the Earth element, which governs nourishment. As the yang organ of Earth, the Stomach acts like a container that receives and stores food. If it doesn't process and digest properly, it can accumulate in the stomach and cause digestive issues like indigestion, bloating, burning, and stomachache.
The therapeutic approach focuses on purging and clearing the Stomach meridian in Late Summer or during seasonal transitions, or whenever there is imbalance such as belching, acid reflux, ulcers, or bad breath. The Stomach is also influenced by the thoughts we “digest” each day — mental residue can disturb the system just as much as food. A powerful question to ask yourself is: “How am I digesting life?”
Stomach energy peaks at 7am - 9am, which is when the stomach meridian is on duty. This is the time for:
△ eating a healthy and hearty breakfast
△ nourishment
△ mental clarity
△ clear concentration
How to nourish your stomach Qi: Spend time each day clearing undigested thoughts, emotions, and conversations so your system has space to digest. Eat warm, easy‑to‑digest foods and drink warm liquids that match your internal temperature. Tune into your gut instinct to support clear decision‑making.
When you get into an emotional rollercoaster ride, it affect clarity in your thinking and hence affect decision making. By working with the spleen as well as the stomach energy, it helps to clear excess emotions and busy mind by directing Qi to the three dantians and central meridian channel.
