Day 13 Yang Sheng
Take a look at the organ clock below and check in with yourself — what does it look like for you during this time? What activities are you doing?
In Five Element Theory, the Kidneys grasp the Qi to assist the Lungs in directing Qi downward. As the yin organ of the Water element, the Kidneys regulate fluid balance, send turbid liquids downward, and recycle clear fluids back into circulation. Kidney imbalance may show up as brittle bones, weak knees, loose teeth, premature aging, poor sperm/egg quality, infertility, poor memory, hair loss, lack of vitality, lower‑back pain, or dark eye circles.
The therapeutic approach focuses on determining whether Kidney deficiency comes from a genetic predisposition to weak essence or from burnout in those who once had strong essence but depleted it through chronic stress, overwork, late nights, or a constant go‑go‑go lifestyle.
Kidney energy peaks at 5pm - 7pm, which is when the kidney meridian is on duty. This is the time for:
△ lighter dinner
△ restorative practices
△ massage
△ relaxation
How to nourish your kidney Qi: Support Kidney essence with proper nutrition and moderate salt intake. Rest regularly and avoid doing anything excessively — including work or exercise. Restorative yoga and Qigong are especially supportive. The Kidneys store fear; releasing fear helps relax Kidney energy. Focus on cultivating life force to promote vitality and longevity. This year’s Yang Sheng practices nourish life by adding more years to your life and more life to your years.
